Entry 04 — The Client Isn’t the Compass
Somewhere along the way, I mistook income for direction.
Every new client became a north star. Every invoice felt like validation.
But money without alignment doesn’t feel like success.
It feels like spinning.
I’ve had seasons where my schedule was full but my soul was empty — chasing client after client, trying to prove I was worth the rate, the retainer, the role.
Then I realized something simple:
The client isn’t the compass.
I am.
That changed everything.
FIELD NOTES
Every “yes” you give without clarity can pull you further from your own work.
I started asking better questions: Does this align with how I want to feel? Does this grow me or drain me? Is the money enough to cover the cost of misalignment?
When I stopped using my calendar as a scoreboard and started using it as a map, I found my way back to center.
COORDINATE
Don’t outsource the vision.
You can serve others without losing yourself. Just don’t let someone else’s urgency set your path.
